The Saint to cut down The Cobra?

Groves made short work of Smith in his last outing.

Undefeated British and Commonwealth champion George “The Saint” Groves has some big plans for 2012. Groves already has a mandatory challenger for his British strap in Kenny Anderson, but he has his eyes on a much bigger scalp.

Adam Booth’s charge saw a scheduled bout on Dec. 9 cancelled due to an injury, but the Londoner is now back to fitness and is raring to make up for lost time.

Groves, coming off of a two-round demolition of Paul Smith Jr., said “I’m back in training now, the hand has recovered fully. I’m looking for an early start at the end of January, early February.”

“The mandatory challenge for my British title was announced, that’s Kenny Anderson, so that’s a good rematch, I think people will be excited about that.”

Their previous encounter was brutal and saw Groves floored for the first time in his career, before showing plenty of heart and courage to recover and stop the fiery Scot in the sixth round.

“In boxing you are only as good as the people you fight and I’m in a talented division at the moment,” Groves said. “I want to get to the top. Maybe in a year’s time or so a super fight with two Brits, me and Carl Froch that would be great. It would be something I would relish but I’ve got to get there first.”

Froch, who lost his WBC super middleweight title to American Andre Ward in the Super Six Tournament final recently, is not short of offers and is reportedly in talks with IBF Champion Lucien Bute and the only other man to beat him, Dane Mikkel Kessler.

The Cobra would be a big step-up for the talented Groves with his brutal and unorthodox style, but he must continue to win and that means again beating Kenny Anderson, who is keen for revenge.

Kevin Maree, who coaches the Scottish slugger, believes they will be more prepared for a shot at Groves’ titles when a date and venue is announced for early in the new year.

“We have been wanting this rematch for some time and finally we have got it,” said a confident Maree. “Kenny has what it takes to beat Groves and we will be fully prepared this time around.”

All that is certain is that with the knowledge and guile of Frank Warren, George Groves has a big year ahead of him.
