Walsh Trainer Everett Backs Him To Become World Champion

Top British trainer Graham Everett believes Liam Walsh can go on to become a World Champion, but is not looking past a tough fight with Paul Appleby.

Super-Featherweight Commonwealth Champion Walsh takes on Appleby at the York Hall on September 30th on the first show promoted by Frank Warren’s sons Francis and George for Queensberry Promotions, LIVE and EXCLUSIVE on BoxNation (Sky Platform Channel 456).

Norwich trainer Everett feels he could follow in the footsteps of his former charge – two-time world heavyweight champion Herbie Hide.

“Liam eats, sleeps, and drinks boxing, he absolutely loves the game,” he said. “He’s got a great opportunity to shine against Appleby and he will take it.  Liam’s got a great amateur pedigree and his work ethic is tremendous.

“I’m lucky to be working with Liam and his brothers Ryan and Michael, whilst Sam (Sexton) is a good lad as well.

It’s not just Liam that Everett has high hope for; he believes that all three of the Walshes can reach the highest level.

“Liam, Ryan and Michael are of championship standard,” Everett continued. “Ryan has got an English title fight coming up.

“Ryan and Liam are twins and they train together all the time. Michael’s injured at the moment, but when all three of them get going again everything’s there, they are great kids.”

Everett doesn’t want to look past Appleby, but does feel heading into the New Year Liam has a bight future,

“We don’t look Appleby, we have the utmost respect for him, and we know he’s a good kid. All being well we get past the 30th and then we look at the British title and more championship fights.”
